Hercules

She met him online. Among the many she has encountered in the social sites, this one stood out. Lisa knew that online dating was undermined by many and some even thought it was a waste of time. She wasn’t much of a social person but to those she was familiar with, she could socialize. As an anti-social girl she thought social sites would be an alternative or an ultimate solution for her to meet someone special and so she joined so many social and dating sites
That was when she joined campus and bought a computer. Being introduced to the internet world by her friend, whom she had just met, was like an answer to her prayers. She started connecting with her high school friends and mostly her best friend who moved to London. Mel moved to London after they cleared school and they had lost contact for a long time but now she could talk and chat with her often.
When that wasn’t enough, Lisa started browsing through other sites for more. She came across several sites for dating but her target was foreigners or white men. Each time she joined one, she got frustrated as those interested in her were fellow countrymen or the site is charging some fee or the men had vulgar language. She went on to search and see if there was someone who could take interest in her but all she got was disappointment.
Two years down the line she hadn’t found anyone but before that, while she was joining the many sites, she came across a certain site which was full of foreign men. The best part was it was free and she got many friend requests and chats as well. She hang on to the site for a while until she got tired and went dormant for a year or so and then again went back in. the third year on august she received a chat request and as usual,
“hey,” she replied
“How are you?”
“Good. You?”
“Fine too. You look beautiful,”
“Thank you. You are not bad yourself,”
“Thank you,”
They continued chatting and she got interested. Hercules was his name and according to Lisa, he was God sent. He was from Greece and divorced. He met his first wife Nat through the internet.
“How is it you trust the internet again after what Nat did to you?” she got totally curious
“I am over what she did and just because one girl broke my heart doesn’t mean I have to stop looking again,” he was so different from the rest
They continued chatting for days and never did he start sex chats or even speak in a vulgar language. She was excited each day to chat with him until the topic came up. She was the one who started it after she asked him what he did.
He worked in a dungeon where all the sex stuff happens. He wasn’t ashamed of telling her and strange enough Lisa got more and more interested each day. Every day was a new story and her curiosity grew with it. She even started writing about him until it became too much and she sought to marvel in each feeling.
They talked about everything, the boring and the exciting stuff, the both looked forward to meeting but both were too broke to travel. She promised herself no matter what happens she had to meet him. At times she thought he wasn’t real and even asked him if he was,
“Of course I am real,” he was amused by that
“Am sorry about that, I just can’t believe that men like you still existed,”
She had grown fond of him and so did he. They even discussed about long distance dating and in short they decided to try it. From a year of being friends to another of liking each other and now a lifetime of loving each other. On her 22nd birthday, she became his official girlfriend and even though they had never met or even seen each other, she felt the connection and wanted to risk it and wait till they could both meet.
On their 3rd year of meeting she made it her mission to see him via Skype. For a simple girl like her, she couldn’t afford a laptop or webcam. She had already sold her desktop and to chat with Hercules, she used her simple phone which had no camera. She worked hard until November that year when the magic happened. She was so tensed and anxious but most of all excited.
When he came online, he was calm. The first time dial didn’t go through so he called her and she could now see him and hear him. She held her breath as much as she could but her smile sold her out, he was so handsome and his smile took her breath away. With his baby eyes looking up the screen, she felt their gaze and she blushed,
“Looks like someone is happy,” he said
“Of course I am happy my love. I can’t believe this,”
“Believe it. And I am happy as well honey. I missed you so much,”
“I missed you as well my love,”
She was super excited and couldn’t hide it anymore. All the feelings she had came crushing in her heart so much she felt more alive than ever. They chatted and talked for hours. He opened up to her that day and she fell for him more and more. He showed her some of his collection he is working on and they were amazing. She got to know more of his potentials and was impressed by each one of them
She too felt free and opened up to him and he listened. The best part was, he made her feel really special and beautiful in and out. He had opened this side of her that was amazing and admirable. That day she had a feeling she couldn’t explain. She kept on staring with disbelief and when it was time to log off she was a little bit sad. She kept his face in her memory throughout till she sees him again. She even convinced herself that he had everything that’s said of Hercules, the fairy tale character in books. She really does believe it.
That night she slept sound and in the morning she woke up the following morning very excited. looking forward to the day he see him again.
